About Us
Advanced technological Vaccine Research and Development studies at Ege University were initiated in 2007 at the Vaccine Research and Development Laboratory within the Parasitology Department of Ege University Faculty of Medicine. With the support of more than 3 million TL received from TÜBİTAK and BAP projects, its infrastructure has been established and R&D studies are carried out against viral and parasitic infectious agents, as well as cancer. Since the day it was founded, more than 10 masters and doctoral students' theses have been completed, in addition, our research team has nearly 20 publications published in foreign (SCI) and domestic journals, over 100 papers presented in various congresses and symposiums, and international patents. In 2014, Vaccine Research and Development Laboratory researchers established the Vaccinology Society of Turkey for the first time in our country and held International Vaccine Science Congress twice in 2015 and 2018 with the participation of an average of 200 researchers from Turkey and abroad. Our research group also cooperates with many university and industrial partners to test methods it has developed.
Interdisciplinary vaccine development studies have been further developed with two projects supported within the scope of TÜBİTAK 1004 Program at Ege University. The first of these is the “Development of a Rapid DNA Vaccine Against COVID-19” project (Project Id: 18AG020) supported by a budget of 1.5 million TL by TUBITAK, and was launched on April 28, 2020. The second project is “Universal Influenza Vaccine Against Pandemic and Seasonal Influenza” project supported with a budget of 20 million TL by TUBITAK, and was launched on May 2021.
Based on these Vaccine R&D experience, our group has established “Vaccine Development Application and Research Center (EGE AGEM)” in our University in 2021. EGE AGEM enables the researchers to carry out multidisciplinary research on vaccines, launch new products for human and animal health. In this center, there is also a postgraduate program called “Vaccine studies” which is designed to train researchers and personnel in concept of a “vaccine development pipeline”.
